Kia ora everyone,
Taz here — coming to you very excited with my first ever Premium Yarn!
Autumn is well and truly here, and the weather has already reminded us why insurance matters. I won’t turn this into a full‑blown forecast (promise), but it’s a good moment to share a few tips on weather‑related claims — and what can really help if the worst happens.
With the recent mix of heavy rain, wind, and cooler snaps around the country, we often see a spike in claims — especially for storm damage, water ingress, fallen trees, and weather‑related vehicle incidents.
If you’re affected, keep these in mind:
Mitigate damage if it’s safe.
If you can safely prevent further damage (like using a tarp or moving items away from water), please do. Your safety always comes first.
Take photos early.
Even if you’re unsure about claiming, a few clear photos as soon as you notice damage can really help later.
Check in before permanent repairs.
Temporary fixes are usually fine but talk to us before committing to permanent repairs so we can guide you on next steps.
Bad weather and driving don’t always mix, so a quick refresher:
• If your vehicle is damaged by weather (flooding, fallen trees, debris), let us know as soon as possible.
• Avoid driving through flood water — even if it looks shallow. It’s one of the most preventable (and expensive) claims we see.
• If your car breaks down or is damaged, arrange towing promptly and keep any receipts.
Weather events can affect more than just your premises. Stock damage, access issues, power outages, and downtime can all come into play.
If you’re impacted:
• Keep a record of what’s affected and how your business is disrupted.
• Get in touch early, especially if you’re unsure about cover.
• If you have Business Interruption cover, the sooner we know, the better we can help.
Weather events are stressful enough without navigating claims on your own. If something’s happened — or you’re not sure whether it’s worth claiming — flick us a message or give us a call. A quick chat early can often save time later.
Until next time, stay dry, drive safe, and give your dog a pat from us 🐾
