An evening for trustees, board members, and leaders in the impact sector
If you are responsible for stewardship — as a trustee, board member, or organisational leader — you carry real responsibility for how funds are protected, deployed, and sustained over time.
Across the impact sector, significant capital is held in term deposits. While this is prudent, it can also limit an organisation’s ability to build resilience, fund capability, or extend impact, particularly as funding tightens and demand increases.
This evening focuses on a practical question many boards face:
Is there a better way to steward surplus funds — without increasing risk or compromising governance responsibilities?

Hosted by the Kaitiaki Foundation
Introduced by Graham Goodisson and Keryn Martin
This event is hosted by the Kaitiaki Foundation, a new philanthropic initiative established by Velocity Financial to support the impact sector with clearer, more effective access to financial expertise.
The Foundation acts as a bridge between the impact sector and the financial services world. Its role is to translate between two systems that often struggle to connect: organisations doing important work on the ground, and the financial professionals who can support them with investment thinking, advice, and services.
Kaitiaki does not provide financial advice. Instead, it operates as a gateway, helping charities, trusts, schools, and community organisations connect with the right financial professionals for their needs, in a way that reflects their values, scale, and governance responsibilities.
For many boards and leaders, professional financial advice has felt out of reach, ill-fitting, or designed only for very large organisations. The Kaitiaki Foundation exists to change that — by making those connections clearer, more accessible, and more relevant to the realities of the impact sector.
This evening brings that role into focus, with the Kaitiaki Foundation convening the conversation and setting the context for how this bridge can work in practice.

Guest speaker: Steven Moe
We are pleased to be joined by Steven Moe, Partner at Parry Field Lawyers and host of Seeds podcast, and a well-known voice working at the intersection of purpose, capital, and governance.
Steven brings an independent perspective informed by research, advisory work, and deep engagement with impact-focused organisations. His contribution will help frame the wider conversation, challenge common assumptions, and add context to the financial and governance realities facing the sector.
Steven has published a number of free resources on Impact Investing, including a Legal Opinion on Enabling Impact Investing, and the Nature as Shareholder paper, both of which can be viewed here.
Steven is a guest of the evening, invited to add depth and perspective to a conversation hosted by Kaitiaki and focused on real-world decision making for boards and senior leaders.

About the Kaitiaki Foundation
The Kaitiaki Foundation is a not‑for‑profit that helps charities and community organisations make sense of financial decisions. Its role is to support organisations to think clearly and confidently about how money is managed, used, and stewarded over the long term.
The Foundation exists to bridge the gap between the not‑for‑profit world and financial services. It helps organisations understand their options, ask better questions, and navigate financial decisions in a way that aligns with their purpose, governance responsibilities, and long‑term goals.
The Kaitiaki Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Velocity Financial. The Kaitiaki Foundation was established to serve the community and has two key areas of focus. Alongside connecting charities and community organisations with clear, trusted financial guidance and access to professional networks and advice, the Foundation also intends to develop the ability to pool and distribute charitable funds back into the community on behalf of donors. This reflects the second part of Kaitiaki’s philanthropic purpose.
