Welcome to our New Rugby-Playing Dutch Lawyer

What is a rugby-playing Dutch lawyer doing working in New Zealand for Velocity Financial? Find the answer below as you get to know our newest team member.

Good day, All.

Alexander Barendregt, or Alex for short, is the latest addition to the team at Velocity Financial, having started on February 1. He has been brought on as an insurance expert to strengthen the team.

He is 28 and originally from the beautiful city of Dordrecht in the Netherlands. He moved to New Zealand in December 2014 to venture off to greener pastures and finds his new home a stunning country with plenty of (financial) opportunities, vastly different lifestyle choices, pleasant people and unparalleled scenery.

Alex’s background is highlighted by tremendous variety. In 2014 he finished his Commercial Law Masters, after which he worked as a freelance solicitor. Prior to that, he studied Transport and Logistics and whilst studying he had his own events company. And, yes, he’s just 28!

During his studies he created a healthy appetite for insurance and the opportunity that Brendon and Graham presented to his (to work as an insurance adviser) was one received with open arms.

Alex can add value to Velocity, and directly to you, by bringing his legal and practical experience of insurances to the playing field. Alex has a different view of the insurance industry than most Kiwis because in the Netherlands it is compulsory to have Health Insurance. Combine that with years of tediously going through the fine print to find the best solution for him, he can now assist the costumers of Velocity to do the same for them.

To balance everything out he likes to play rugby for the Old Boys University Premier team, has a love for cooking, likes exploring new places and, most recently, has a newfound love for craft beer.

He looks forward meeting you and to catch up for a coffee.
